Cooking Social Club: More Fun With Tequila: Cantarito Recipe!

Bright, citrusy, and almost too smooth, the Cantarito is like a tequila-based citrus sangria with a refreshing grapefruit finish and a little Tajín kick. It is simple to mix, easy to customize, and perfect for celebrations—or whenever you want to bring a little extra flavor to cocktail hour.
This cocktail is one of the featured drinks from our Three Tequila Ways & Mexican Bites Mixology Class, where guests mixed three tequila cocktails and enjoyed each one alongside a Mexican-inspired food pairing. We served the Cantarito with roasted chicken tinga tostadas topped with fresh tomato salsa and queso fresco.
Cantarito Ingredients
2 ounces tequila
Approximately 3 ounces fresh grapefruit wedges
1 ounce fresh orange juice
¼ fresh lime, cut into wedges
4 ounces grapefruit soda, such as Jarritos or Squirt
Tajín (Mexican Dry Spice Of Mixed Pepper & Dried Citrus) for the rim
Ice
Orange, lime, or grapefruit wedge for garnish
Instructions
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a tall glass. Dip the rim into Tajín until it is evenly coated.
Fill the prepared glass with ice and allow it to chill while you mix the cocktail.
Add the tequila, orange juice, grapefruit wedges, and lime wedges to a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice.
Shake for about one minute—or until the drink is thoroughly chilled and your hand starts asking for a break.
Replace the ice in your prepared glass with fresh ice. Strain the cocktail into the glass, filling it approximately three-quarters of the way.
Top with grapefruit soda and stir gently.
Garnish with an orange, lime, or grapefruit wedge and serve immediately.
Chef’s Tips
For the freshest flavor, use freshly squeezed orange juice and give the grapefruit and lime wedges a light muddle before shaking. Fresh ice in the serving glass will also keep your Cantarito colder without watering it down too quickly.
Prefer a sweeter drink? Add a little extra grapefruit soda. For a bolder tequila flavor, reduce the soda slightly. You can also adjust the amount of Tajín on the rim depending on how much spice you want in each sip.
More Than a Cooking Class
Our Three Tequila Ways & Mexican Bites Mixology Class brought together hands-on cocktail making, bold Mexican-inspired dishes, and plenty of opportunities to sip, taste, and socialize. Along with the Cantarito, guests made a ginger-forward Paloma and a vibrant Hibiscus Margarita, each paired with its own Mexican bite.
At Cooking Skills & Social, our classes are about more than following a recipe. They are interactive culinary experiences designed to bring people together around great food, creative drinks, and a fun night out.
